The Complete Guide to Atlas Mountain Family Village Trek — 3 Days

Everything you need to plan atlas mountain family village trek — 3 days — day-by-day itinerary, difficulty, fitness, altitude, weather, accommodation, food, safety, culture and logistics, from Marrakech to Aït Bouguemez.

Why this trek stands out

A three-day family trek through two Atlas valleys — walking Imlil and Aroumd on Day 1, a high-pasture walk followed by a road transfer to the Aït Bougmez valley on Day 2, and the Happy Valley villages on Day 3 — with two nights in welcoming Berber guesthouses, a sacred granary shrine and deep cultural immersion. A genuine mountain adventure for families with children aged 10 and over.

This is our flagship family trek — three days of real mountain travel that stays gentle enough for children aged 10+, with comfortable guesthouse nights, a mule for luggage, and a route through villages we have known for years. It is a proper adventure, not a day trip.

Local culture and responsible travel

We are a community-first operator. We employ local Berber guides, cooks and muleteers at fair wages, source food and lodging from mountain families, and follow strict leave-no-trace principles — carrying out all waste and protecting fragile alpine and desert environments. A share of every booking supports village schools and water projects across the valleys we walk through.

Frequently asked questions

What age is the 3-day family village trek suitable for?

Children aged 10 and over who are used to walking 5–6 hours a day for several days. It is a genuine multi-day trek, not a gentle day trip.

What is the accommodation?

Two nights in family-run Berber guesthouses with private family rooms, hot showers where available, and rooftop terraces. Bedding is provided; bring a sleeping bag liner.

Is the trek safe for families?

Yes — well-used village paths and mule tracks, no technical terrain, a family-trained guide and a first aid kit. A mule carries the luggage so you walk with a daypack.

What is the Sidi Moussa shrine?

A hilltop collective granary and sacred site above Aït Bougmez, used for centuries to store and protect the valley’s grain. The panoramic view over the valley is one of the trek’s highlights.

How fit do we need to be?

Moderately active — able to walk 5–6 hours a day at a relaxed pace for three days. No technical climbing. We pace the trek for the youngest walker.
