The best time to hike in Morocco is spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) for mild weather and green or golden landscapes. Summer suits the highest summits; winter brings snow above 3,000 m and lower prices.
Morocco can be hiked year-round, but the right season depends almost entirely on altitude. The valleys around Marrakech are pleasant most of the year; the 4,000 m summits are a different world. This guide breaks down each season so you can pick the right window for your route, your tolerance for heat or cold, and your budget.
Spring is one of the two classic seasons. Days are warm (15–25°C in the valleys), nights are cool, and the mountains are green with wildflowers and snowmelt-fed streams. It is the most photogenic time and ideal for valley hikes and lower treks. Toubkal may still have snow on the upper slopes in early April. Crowds and prices are moderate; book Toubkal 2+ weeks ahead for May.
Summer is hot in the lowlands (35°C+ in Marrakech) but excellent at altitude — the Toubkal summit and high plateaus (Oukaïmeden, M'Goun) offer cool walking with long daylight. This is peak season for the high summits, so refuges are busy and prices are at their highest. Start early to avoid afternoon heat on the approach valleys.
Autumn is the other classic season — mild days, cool nights, golden light and stable weather after the summer heat breaks. September is ideal for the high summits; October is perfect for valley hikes and lower treks. Crowds and prices are moderate; book Toubkal 2+ weeks ahead for September–October.
Winter brings cold and snow above 3,000 m — Toubkal becomes a genuine mountaineering objective requiring crampons and ice axe (we run guided winter ascents). Lower valleys (Imlil, Ourika, Ouirgane, Agafay) remain hikeable and quiet, with the lowest prices of the year. Bring full winter kit for any high route.

| Summer (Jun–Aug) | 30–38°C | High summits | High | Highest |
| Autumn (Sep–Oct) | 15–25°C | Everything | Moderate | Moderate |
| Winter (Nov–Mar) | 8–15°C | Low valleys, winter Toubkal | Low | Lowest |
May and October are the single best months — mild, green or golden, stable weather and good conditions across most altitudes. September is ideal for the high summits.
July and August in the low valleys and desert (35°C+). At altitude (above 2,500 m) it remains comfortable. Start early and choose high routes in summer.
Above 3,000 m, snow falls from November and can linger into May on north-facing slopes. Toubkal typically holds snow December–April. Lower valleys rarely see snow.
Winter (November–March, excluding holidays) is the quietest time, especially in the lower valleys. Siroua and Saghro are quiet year-round.
Winter (November–March) is the lowest-price season for most tours. Summer is the highest, especially for the high summits.
Summer (June–August) for the high summits, and around major holidays. Book early for peak-season Toubkal.
Yes — lower valleys (Imlil, Ourika, Ouirgane, Agafay) are hikeable and quiet. High routes need crampons, ice axe and a winter-qualified guide; we run guided winter Toubkal ascents.
Spring and autumn — mild weather, green or golden landscapes and comfortable walking. Avoid the summer heat and the winter high-altitude snow with young children.
